The Wager: Warlock Patron (5e)
One night¸ perhaps you found yourself on a crossroad at midnight¸ and a well-dressed gentleman offered you untold riches¸ if only you play a little game. You knew this man was not quite human¸ but the temptation was too much¸ and you accepted. Congratulations! You are now the victim and/or beneficiary of The Wager. A new type of Warlock Patron that seeks to gather followers not by making a pact¸ but by tricking Warlocks into giving up their souls in dark bargains. You still have access to all the power and prestige of a Warlock¸ but your powers are at your Patron's whim even more than usual¸ and when you die¸ your soul is forfeit. The Wager is a Warlock Patron for players who wish that Warlocks had a more harrowing relationship with their Patrons. It features a Borrowed Time system where your tricky Patron can cause Wild Magic Surge-like effects on you¸ but if you appease your patron well¸ you can learn to control the arrival and appearance of these effects.
