The Parsik Siege System (5e)
"A rumbling fell over the city of Greyhawk. Korin¸ the human ranger¸ sharpened his silver blade as the world around him shook quietly. His wounds had been tended by the clerics and healers¸ and he was preparing for the next several hours. He sighed¸ looking up to see his old friends¸ the elven archer Taleera and the Tiefling sorcerer Triumph. 'Come on¸ Korin'¸ Taleera said to the man¸ offering her hand out to take his¸ 'the siege is only getting started.' The two brought Korin with them back to the stone walls of Greyhawk. As they approached¸ more sounds of rumbling overcame them¸ as well as the distant shouting of orders. The quiet sounds of nocking arrows and firing bows could be heard as they approached¸ but the sounds only grew louder as they climbed the stone stairs up to the walls. Across from them¸ spread across a huge¸ muddy battlefield in the bleak reaches of Unth'regar¸ an army had come for Greyhawk. Siege Towers stood like monoliths while distant trebuchet pelted the city walls¸ and pale elven archers fired volleys of flaming arrows. Taleera nocked her own bow¸ firing back at them. Triumph prepared his spells¸ throwing orbs of fire into the crows that erupted into infernos. Korin drew his silver blade and closed his eyes. He prayed to the gods that he and his friends would live to see the end of the Siege of Greyhawk." -Kortara Inkfang¸ "The Greyhawk Saga Book Three: Desolation" When we look at the staples of fantasy storytelling¸ many themes prevail themselves. Many concepts complete stories¸ to the point where some stories would feel emptier without them. For example¸ what would J.R.R. Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings" be without the battles of Helms Deep and Minas Tirith? Sieges and large-scale battles are cornerstones of fantasy fiction¸ but there are no official rules on how to run Sieges for Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition. To this end¸ I've devised a set of rules myself¸ called the Parsik Siege System. Named after the first city on which it was used in a campaign of mine¸ I've adapted and fleshed out the rules. However¸ it should be noted that these rules should be taken more as guidelines. They require further playtesting and updating for proper balancing¸ and I encourage whoever uses this to improvise on the exact numbers whenever necessary. I will be continuing to update this document¸ as well as searching for those with graphic design talent to help make it look a bit more colorful and lively.
