The Beast of Thornbriar Hills (5e)
Someone or something is snatching sheep from the flocks kept on the hillsides above Thornbriar village and leaving bloody messes behind. As your party arrives¸ it's just dawning on the local shepherds - a likable¸ but rather dense lot - that a dangerous predator lurks among them. Is it a band of hobgoblins living on the opposite slope of the hill? Is it the anchoress who lives nearby¸ thought by some to be a powerful warlock even though no one has ever met her? Or is this a cryptozoology mystery¸ with an alpha predator prowling the sparsely populated hills? The community of Thornbriar may need some heroes to save them from this menace - and maybe¸ from themselves¸ as well. The Beast of Thornbriar Hills is published under the Open Game License. It does not specify a particular campaign setting¸ and it allows you to integrate it into your own campaign world by filling in various details. Places by the Way is a series of short modules created by veteran RPG writer and developer Douglas Sun for use with Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition. Think of them as glittering mosaic tiles that you can drop into a campaign to provide your player characters with diverting side quests and memorable interludes while they follow the overall story arc. After all¸ a great campaign world is one in which memorable experiences can be had even in places found by the way.
