Maverick Class (5e)
**The Maverick** A maverick is typically described as an individual that walks their own path. Some call them stuborn¸ unpredictable¸ and selfish¸ among other things. While these may all be true¸ they are also loyal¸ innovative¸ and insightful. The maverick is always willing to learn new skills¸ but in a way that is beneficial to them. The Maverick class is designed to be extremly versitle throughout your gameplay. There are plenty of features that allow customization throughout your gameplay for any player levels 1 through 20. This rework of my original submission includes updated features¸ new features in each of the subclasses¸ and an overall better balance to fit in with other D&D 5e classes. Please leave feedback about what you think¸ and enjoy! Class Features Maverick's Ingenuity and Quick Response: The Maverick has the ability to utilize special reactions called Quick Responses. The reactions are in response to specific triggers described in the Maverick's Ingenutiy features. Whether you are throwing sand in an enemies eyes to be harder to hit¸ or attempting to viciously mock them for missing an attack¸ a maverick will do whatever it takes to win a fight. A Little Direction: Guide your fighting style with the A Little Direction feature. This allows you to choose from The Combatant¸ The Bowman¸ or The Spellslinger. Each of these options offer additional Maverick's Ingenuity options and useful features both in and out of combat. I created this class over the course of a few years¸ and released a different version of it about 5 months ago. You can find that version here. Changelog : Maverick Class: Version 1.1 (3/30/20) Cover page removed ‐ Cover art put in. Maverick Table updated to show correct order of content. Spellcasting updated ‐ The spell list follows the structure of a half-caster (Artificer¸ Paladin¸ Ranger)¸ but does not allow for 5th level spells. This was to counteract the limited martial abilities of the Maverick¸ while also attempting to balance it with the abilities a Maverick has through reactions. Spellcasting (Description) ‐ Changed "begun to realize" to "have always been aware of." Spell Save DC and Spell Attack modifier put in bold. Maverick's Ingenuity: Brace Yourself¸ From a Mile Away¸ and Slap Yourself ‐ All updated to include the word spell. Each should now say "When a creature¸ spell ¸ object¸ or environmental effect..." Caltrop Drop ‐ changed the wording from "should a creature attempt to move through the area with the caltrops" to "attempt to move from their current location." I changed this because the caltrops are thrown at the creature's current location¸ and will have to move through the area regardless. Deflect ‐ Changed to Deflection Deflection ‐ added the words "with it" to describe the weapon you are deflecting the attack with. Rolling 1d4 changed to be "a number equal to your Intelligence modifier." Added benefit ‐ "If the attack still hits you¸ you only take half damage from it." Hubris ‐ This new Maverick's Ingenuity option was added. Sand in the Eyes ‐ Removed 1d4 duration¸ and changed to "the creature is considered blinded until the end of its next turn. A creature may end this effect by using its action to clear out its eyes." A Little Direction (Feature Description) ‐ The Bowman and The Combatant put in alphabetical order. Intellectual Stamina ‐ 11th level feature changed from "half of your Maverick level" to "third of your Maverick level." This was to make sure it was less powerful than a Wizards Arcane Recovery ability. Adaptable: Aware and Classy ‐ Changed from a +5 modifier to read more like Expertise. "Your proficiency bonus is doubled for..." Shield Smack changed to "Shield Bash" Worldly ‐ Removed "and obtain" from tools. Added "proficiency with a weapon" and changed on
