A Demon in the Spine of the World (5e)
An ambitious (and overly optimistic) band of dwarves has hacked their way into mountainside in the Spine of the World¸ certain that they will find mithril there and make their fortunes. Their excavation uncovered a large hollow in the heart of the mountain - and a demon lurking at the bottom of a crevasse. When the demon failed to attack them and wipe them out¸ the dwarves decided to turn it into a tourist attraction; now¸ visitors from far and wide pay them to get a thrilling glimpse of the demon in the Pit of Hell. How long will this state of affairs last? Can a mining colony of dwarves and a vile spawn of the Abyss find a way to live side-by-side in peace and harmony?... This is a mess that's going to need a party of heroes to sort it out. Places by the Way #6: A Demon in the Spine of the World can be run as a stand-alone¸ or as a sequel to Places by the Way #5: A Forge on the Savage Frontie r. For a version of this module that does not specify a particular setting¸ see The Demon's Veins ¸ which is available through DriveThru RPG. Places by the Way is a series of short modules created by veteran RPG writer and developer Douglas Sun for use with Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition. Think of them as glittering mosaic tiles that you can drop into a campaign to provide your player characters with diverting side quests and memorable interludes while they follow the overall story arc. After all¸ a great campaign world is one in which memorable experiences can be had even in places found by the way.
