34 + 1 Cantrips by DiBastet (5e)
If you like this product¸ click here to check out others by the same team! Hello guys¸ it's been a while! Two years actually! Me and my playeres here in Secrets of Alancia have been busy playing other games most of this time¸ but finally really got to come back to 5e last year. We don't like publishing material we didn't get to really playtest on real games¸ and that's why we took such a long hiatus. But now we're back for content we've been creating and running for the past year or so. Today we bring you cantrips! We welcome cantrips with open arms when 5e came out¸ but of course we wanted more interesting cantrips for the poor schools that were lacking in them (its ok Illusion¸ we got you dear). And also everything changed when SCAG added the weapon attack cantrips¸ bringing our ideas of cantrip power balance to a whole new level! And we wanted more of them¸ with different elemental abilities and rider effects. Inside this product you'll find the cantrips that we created for our games. These cantrips were playtested and more importantly¸ used in real characters and games by me and my players since October 2016. Inside you will find: More cantrips for forsaken schools: Some schools had very little cantrip support. We made sure to add some combat and noncombat options to all schools. More support and utility cantrips: Attack options are nice¸ sure¸ but Guidance¸ Prestidigitation¸ Shape Water and Minor Illusion are awesome¸ and we craved more awesome cantrips like that. We like to go wild with them and brough back some favorites from past editions. More scag-type weapon attack cantrips: A weapon attack cantrip of each energy type to go with the beloved Booming Blade and Green Flame Blade. We really like the rider effect of Booming Blade and think other similar cantrips should include similar tactical options. We also included two such cantrips for clerics and even one for druids! They suck a bit by comparision but at least now you don't have to jump through hoops to get one! Iconic cantrips: There are some very nice¸ very iconic higher level spells that really help define a character concept. However we wish there were lower level versions of them. So we included cantrips that are thematically similar to those iconic spell¸ like Countercantrip¸ Prismatic Blast¸ and Request. We hope they enrich your games as much as they did ours. What do you guys have against the number 35? Well¸ nothing... Besides that being kind of a tradition of ours with our 18+1 feats product¸ there's also the fact that one of the cantrips here isn't exactly new¸ but our own version of True Strike. While we think that no cantrip should be *so* useful over the others that it becomes default¸ none should be so bad it's only ever useful on the most specific of builds or circumstances¸ and True Strike hurt our sensibilities in this regard. Our reasoning beyond our True Strike Negating disadvantage is similar to negating a -4 to your roll (please note that this spell doesn't remove the disadvantage¸ it just changes the dice mechanics for that attack. It's not the same as having a real advantage to negate the disadvantage. This matters to rogues' sneak attack). Getting 'Super advantage' over advantage is typically similar to a gain of +2¸ give or take¸ over normal advantage. So we think it's a fair trade for a gish to have the choice to burn his bonus action and concentration to negate a -4 or to gain a +2 when he's already got advantage. It's a good option for when you might need it¸ but not something you'll use all the time unless you build specifically for that. And that's exactly what we believe should be the sweet spot for a cantrip's balance. By the way our True Strike -patched after the amazing XGtE- is avaiable on the free preview¸ so feel free to take a look to understand our reasoning.
